THE MANUFACTURE'S ORIGIN

jean pierre pernault

ORIGINS

On May 1st, 2000 at 1 P.M., a story about BOHIN was broadcasted on French TV on TF1. The next day, people were in the manufacture yard: BOHIN France became part of the "French Heritage" overnight.

The number of visit requests increased, and our staff had to improvise. In response to this increased number of visitors (2,000 people a year without advertising) and their desire to know more about our products, the idea of creating a museum naturally came to mind to Didier Vrac, BOHIN’s former president.

He met François Confino, a talented scenographer known throughout the world, who fell under the charm of this project.

PRESERVING FRENCH HERITAGE

BOHIN manufacture’s objectives are to let people know about the making of this unique object and to share the heritage and the entire region’s industrial history. Jean Sellier, President of the Community of L 'Aigle area and mayor of Saint-Sulpice-sur-Risle, France supported Didier Vrac’s idea from the beginning : he wanted to preserve this in a large building like BOHIN’s (almost 10,000 m2 of floor area), which requires improvement work and renovation efforts in order to maintain these ancestral buildings in good shape. From day 1, he also saw in this a wonderful tourism project opportunity for the entire area of L 'Aigle, France and, more broadly, for Normandy.
